Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group San Diego Supercross. Women's
Stadium-Cross Championship Series. The Series was the brainchild of
Women's MX Team director, Debbie Matthews, who with the support and
blessing of MTEG promoted the first Supercross/Off-road Stadium
Championships for women riders during select AMA Supercross and MTEG
Ultracross races. With the demise of MTEG later that year, the
historical event had a brief but brilliant place in history. (Race

Mike Keidrowski teaches a group of women students during a
Free Women's Only MX Seminar taught at Glen Helen in 1996. The event was
founded and managed by Debbie Matthews in 1995 and sponsored by TEAM,
with Doug Dubach as the instructor. The creation of these schools spawned
the desire in Matthews to offer schooling on a permanent basis, and was the
forerunner to WSMX. The event marked the 2nd year of exclusive
training for women riders.

Satchwell, made her mark in Supercross
history as well, also racing the Houston SX in an attempt to qualify.
While Satch failed to qualify as well on one of the most difficult tracks in SX
history, the way women competitors were viewed in the industry and by fans
alike, would never be the same. Satchwell and Harris's bold move would
forever change the sport for women riders everywhere.

motorcycle demo during the 2nd annual AMA Women in Motorcycling
conference in 2001. The school and demo was so popular that the class sold out and
over 200 women street riders demo'd off road bikes during the conference
and DMSports-WSMX, was invited by the AMA to continue the demo/school for
the next 3 years.

Women's timeline of organizations displayed in the AMA museum, recognizes
the importance of the creation the Women's Motocross League (WML) of an off-road league for women in
motorcycling competition, founded in 1996 by Elaine
Ruff, Debbie Matthews, and Jim Trimble. This organization was the catalyst for
much of the growth women's motocross and off-road now enjoy. |

she was racing a 250. 1998 marked the first year that all pros
had to run the same displacement size. Gillet appealed the
decision but the ruling stood.

1996 Washougal
National-Series winner Shelly Kann-left, shares a laugh with series rival
and runner up Shelley Hickman of New Zealand. Kann secured the
title, when Hickman's bike broke within sight of the flag. The two
were virtually side by side at the time. Hickman, spent over 10k of
her own money to travel to the USA in pursuit of the title. The
title loss was a bitter disappointment, but she arrived home a national
hero.
